Why so silent?
Whenever I first get a new mobile phone, one of the first things I used to play with were the ringtones. Whether it was the standards such as the breezy Summertime, the signature Nokia tone (made famous by "Trigger Happy TV") or Polyphonic effigies to the current pop offerings. At that time, there was something cool about having Shaggy's "It Wasn't Me" emitting from your phone in full 32-bit glory.
However, nowadays I have noticed I seem to keep my phone on silent all the time. Have I just gone off the novelty value of ringtones? Surely not, as my 24 CTU replica ringtone will testify
Perhaps, it could just be the fact I never really have the time to have it on un-silent mode? I think some mathematical experimentation is needed:
Number of hours in a week: 168 hours
Then subtract the number of hours I would normally be sleeping, or deem it too late/early to have an audible ringtone. For this experiment, I will be using the 11pm-7am Anti-Social Behaviour rule. This gives 8 hours per night, over 7 days = 56 hours.
Next, being a respectful student I would naturally put my phone on silent during University hours to avoid lecture/lab disturbances. These hours are, roughly, 10am-4pm Monday-Friday = 30 hours.
Moreover, my phone is usually off (or at least on silent) during paid working hours in my jobs, which works out at 15 hours per week.
This gives: 168 - (56 +30 + 15)
168 - 101
Giving me a potential 67 hours where I could unleash the full audio potential of the phone.
I think I prefer the discreet vibration in my pocket(!) compared the a ringtone now anyway. It seems much more civilised and less likely to get you slagged.
What are your ringtone habits? Is the multi-million pound ringtone market dying?

My phones been on silent for about a decade now, I've never been a fan of ringtones and phone is always in pocket anyway. Similar reasons as you being uni/work.
